My Thoughts

Well, this is heartwarming on a very profound level. It’s real. It’s something we all need to see. Something we all need to respect. We need to realize what it means when that soldier says, “Alive like you’ve never been before.”

Synopsis

BROTHERS AT WAR is an intimate portrait of an American family during a turbulent time. Jake Rademacher sets out to understand the experience, sacrifice, and motivation of his two brothers serving in Iraq. The film follows Jake’s exploits as he risks everything—including his life—to tell his brothers’ story.

Embedded in the Action

Often humorous, but sometimes downright lethal, BROTHERS AT WAR is a remarkable journey where Jake embeds with four combat units in Iraq. Unprecedented access to U.S. and Iraqi combat units take him behind the camouflage curtain with secret reconnaissance troops on the Syrian border, into sniper “Hide Sites” in the Sunni Triangle, through raging machine gun battles with the Iraqi Army. Ultimately, the film follows his brothers home where separations and life-threatening work ripple through their parents, siblings, wives and children. BROTHERS AT WAR provides a rare look at the bonds and service of our soldiers on the frontlines and the profound effects their service has on the loved ones they leave behind.

“How did the frontier colony of Virginia produce, in one generation, George Washington, George Mason, Patrick Henry, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and George Wythe? At a time when their coadjutors included Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Alexander Hamilton? The historian reminds us that the clichés are insufficient explanation: great challenges draw forth great talents; (or) the best talents have nowhere else to go, to serve, in such days. But does he find part of the answer in the Founders’ education? They were soaked in the history of Rome and Greece, and they studied Greek and Latin. They knew their Bible; they were children of the political philosophers of the Enlightenment. They had for the most part no degrees, as they had, for the most part, no university education. Yet they thought more clearly, considered more self-reliantly, wrote more accurately and eloquently, than we.”
