PEOPLE – Our greatest source of wealth.

People can be wonderful and horrible. The range of human behavior is almost too extreme to even comprehend. But it seems to be a law of sorts that the better something can be, the worse it can be. Since we probably can’t change this law, looks like the best thing to do is focus on the positive side of the calculus. Right?

Well in life we all encounter people and it might be possible to have a more satisfying experience if we begin to have a bit of a strategy for this part of our life.

Here’s a start: Consider that there are people in your life that can help you achieve your potential. These are people that “see” the real you and whether you know it or not, the level you invest in them – in terms of time and attention – can be the biggest single factor in your success – theirs too.

Here are some of my reflections about life, work, and staying on the "path."

Here are some of my reflections about life, work, and staying on the path.“

First of it’s a fair question to ask, “What do you mean by ‘mastery’?” Well for me mastery is not a destination – it is more, in a philosophical sense, a pursuit, a set of what I like to call “anchor activities” that organize around a set of commitments.

But we need to differentiate between being a master (a guru) and being on the path of mastery – having a LIFE of mastery. You can be a master musician and have NO LIFE. You can be a master painter and HATE the world because no one “gets” what you do. Right? That’s a master.

But mastery is something very different. Mastery is a lifestyle. It is intentional living where you have discerned your anchor activities and you simply do them. And doing them produces peace, joy, focus, laughter, fun, wealth and satisfaction.

More on this later…

PERSONAL POWER:

Every person has the potential of experiencing incredible personal power. This power is accessed through the systematic development of several foundational skills – chief among them are the mastery of time and wealth.

Personal power is not about having control over others, our circumstances, or in some way reducing the presence of risk in our lives. Personal power is about the mastery of self – the unleashing or unveiling of who we really are. This is not mystical, but in fact immensely practical. Think of yourself like a plant. With good soil, the right amount of water, and sunlight – you are perfectly healthy, beautiful, efficient, and never tired or slaving. Make sense? That’s who you can be. You simply need the right nourishment.

So part of our journey is to discover those things (habits, usually) that steal your nourishment. Another part is to give ourselves enough leverage to move these boulders out of our lives so that we experience the joy of a “one and done” solution.
